Annual General Meeting

Rosslare S & R Centre

Nov. 5th

There was a very good attendance at the AGM. The overall feeling at the meeting was that the club in is a very healthy state with members enjoying their participation in the bowling events. Two issues of concern were the delay in replacing the playing surface which is due to problems with the contractor and the lack of team competitions for lady members. The possibility of issuing a newsletter to improve communication within the club was put forward and the committee agreed to look into this in the coming year. Financially the club is in a healthy state. Elections took place and the new committee was welcomed in. Tributes were paid to the retiring president, Paddy Carter for his outstanding dedication to the club. At the conclusiion of the meeting attendance left with the assurance that the club was headed for another enjoyable year in 2009.
August 17
Match with Bank of Ireland
The visit of the BOI club was yet another link forged with outside clubs. Our visitors were welcomed with the usual warm cup and a sandwich before bowls were rolled. The BOI club is a natural lawn club and so they found our synthetic surface hard to deal with. A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon was somewhat hampered by the uneven scoring as the match became more and more one-sided. However that may be rectified when the return match is played in the spring and we struggle with their conditions.

August 10
Trip to Greystones

The match in Greystones was supposed to be a round-robin affair comprising ourselves Aughrim and the hosts Greystones. Unfortunately Aughrim withdrew at the last minute. Nevertheless the match between Greystones and Rosslare went ahead. On arrival we were warmly greeted by our hosts and treated to a very generous mid-morning meal sprinkled with stimulating conversation and exchanges of bowling experiences. The match was played on four rinks. From the beginning we found the Greystone lawn very slow and really had difficulty with the weight. The surface was quiet wet also which further hampered us. The end result was a resounding victory for Gerystones and a disappointing defeat for us. However there is a return match to come where we hope to even scores up.

August 2
Rosslare Overcome Fishguard
After the disappointing performance on July 7th Rosslare had it all to do to reverse the deficit of 46 which we carried back from Fishguard. Playing on home territory the home side were in scoring mood and chalked up the following on the three rinks ; 37/9, 28/14, 36/4. This gave an overall score of 74 against 46 on the away match. So once again we retained the challenge trophy by an aggregate score of 28.
"I played in Dunlaoghaire this Sun 13th July lost 21-13 to Pat Redmond Aer Lingus on Grass. Great day out and saw some great matches. These guys were all their respective Club Champions in Dublin, Top Players! Was made very welcome as Captain of RBC and I'd like to thank the members of DBC for their kind hospitality on the day. Good luck to an old friend of mine from CYM Terenure Bernie Vaughan in the Semi- Finals next Sun 20th! "
July 6th
Shott Cup in Shankill
Things did not go well for the travelling team in what was hopefully going to be a win. We went down in all three matches and it's back to the drawing board for next year.

June 8th
The Annual Rosslare Fishguard Challenge

On Saturday June 7th a party of 20 led by Capt. Maurice took to the high seas in search of victory. Sailing on the Stena Ferry we were in high spirits on the high seas and all set for another victory following the last year's success.
The travellers were welcomed on arrival by our friends in Fishguard and had a chance to get in some practise on the spectacular lawn rinks which are justifiably the pride of the Fishguard club.
On Saturday evening the bowlers adjourned to the local pub where entertainment was provided by our talented musician Maurice who had brought his guitar just in case.
The following morning the serious work of manufacturing another victory got underway when the match started at 12.30. That is when things went from very good to not so good and then to not so good at all. In all four games we were beaten and to make a sad story short we re-crossed the Irish sea carrying a deficit of 46 which we need to try and reverse when Fishguard make the return trip on August 3rd
